DDAC recent activities.
With another season well underway and members and visitors catching fish and enjoying our waters, here is some of the work taking place behind the scenesat DDAC.
Regular stocking has been taking place at all of our still waters. A change of fish supplier was required due to the closure of Belhaven Fishery. Invicta Fishery has now taken over and have provided several loads of high-quality fish in an efficient and professional manner. Various club members regularly volunteer to assist with this crucial task.
A new multi visit, evening ticket has been introduced at the Reservoir for members that should allow anglers to have a go at short notice, when circumstances and conditions are favourable for them.
Work is continuing to improve and promote fishing at the River Ruel and has included a large additional pool becoming part of our our beat on a three-year lease, an audacious, grant funded operation to remove a particularly large and problematic dead tree from said pool, an informative evening tour of our beat by Ruel Convener, Bob Clark and Club members continuing to provide support with netting and monitoring of sea trout in partnership with the Argyll Fisheries Trust.
If you would like to get involved in any of these activities, please contact Club Secretary on 07814910795. Alternatively, you can contact any Committee member or email the Club at
Finally we have received some very positive feedback recently that helps to make all the efforts of Club members worthwhile –
“Looking forward to coming back everybody got fish 4 of us got our limit the other 2 had 3/4 each, condition were hard with the flat calm, thank you for all your help”. Visiting anglers on Loch Tarsan 20.05.23
“Was through at weekend, caught 2 browns at Tarsan on the Friday evening and had 16 rainbows, a blue and a 3lb brown over the Saturday and Sunday at the Reservoir. Thank you for the work you guys do.” Club member 22.05.23

A new tab above, links to the Fishpal website, so our visitors can now book their river fishing online, there is also a button to this website on the right hand side underneath the email address link…. we hope this is helpful !
The lock Eck competition went ahead from Saturday the 1 st October and ran till the Saturday the 8th of October.
There was a very poor turn out from the Dunoon and District angling club members for having over 140 members the turnout was simply shocking.
In total only 3 members fished the competition, they were:
Graham Henry fished on Wednesday the 5th but unfortunately did not contact any of the lochs wild fish.
Saturday the 8th, Bill Rankin and myself Allan Miller fished the competition, we had a bit of mixed weather ranging from flat calm to torrential rain and at times high winds.
The fishing was hard going as always, with Bill Rankin only catching one 10″ sea trout.
I landed one Brown trout of about 11,1/2 inches but this was out of season and did not count to the weigh in. Shortly after that I hooked a very big fish which offered a very short fight as it snapped my 8 lb leader.
So the winner for the 2022 Loch Eck Competition is Bill Rankin with one Sea Trout, congratulations Bill.
There’s always next year.
If any club members has any ideas on how to make the competition more attractive so more people enter, please feel free to contact me or any of the committee with your thoughts.
Kind regards
Lucky Miller
Hats off to those members that turned out for the Over 50’s Competition at Loch Tarsan! On a day that again could have passed as Autumn a handful of anglers were still prepared to fish, despite an increasingly strong westerly that crested the water with white horses and drove at times very heavy rain into their faces. Two anglers chose to use a boat and although they required to come in early due to deteriorating conditions the winning bag was their reward for braving the waves. Well done to Bill Rankin who won the day returning 3 lovely fish including the biggest fish also.
Results were as follows:
No. of fish. Total Weight. Biggest fish.
Bill Rankin. 3. 3lbs10.7oz. 1lbs8.3oz.
Colin Brown. 2. 2lbs8.6oz. 1lbs7.5oz.
Keith Mackenzie. 2. 2lbs3.7oz. 1lbs2oz.
D.F.MacGillivray. 2. 2lbs0.1oz. 1lbs4oz.
Passed by Tarsan today (9th) and all boats were high and dry again 🙄 .. incase anybody was planning a trip, that’s the situation at present.
Dear Members
The Reservoir road is temporarily closed due to a landslip half way up the road. The Council are busy digging into the hillside to re-route the road and, at this moment, there is no time estimate for the work to be completed.
Members should go along Kilbride Road and when you come to the concrete ramp where Storie’s old yard used to be, drive up for just under half a mile and you will come to a car park. Park there and walk through the woods and you will come out at the dam wall.
Sorry for the inconvenience. I will up-date the web-site as soon as I have more information.
Tight lines

All boats are now ready for use in Loch Loskin, thanks to all the members who came along to help.
The Tarsan and Loskin have been stocked today (Monday) with brown trout so everything is ready for action.
Please note : There are still only two boats in Loch Tarsan until the necessary repairs have been carried out, tell John at the paint shop which boat you require, standard or short shaft.
Planning a fishing trip in Dunoon ? …. Then here’s the place to stay.
