This is the state of play at Loch Tarsan at the moment, preventing us from stocking and getting boats out on the moorings. We will keep members updated if there is a change in the water level situation, which is beyond our control.

The weed on Loch Loskin has been cut back while the water was at its current low level, the hired machine took the weed as low as possible before the first stocking and start of the brown trout season on 15th March. The club has put a lot of effort into the “Lochan” lately, with new boats, weed cutting and maintenance to the shed, with the external walkways in the process of being repaired with new timbers, so hopefully this will encourage members and visitors to fish this water as visits have been poor the last couple of years. There is excellent sport to be had here … providing you go and fish it !

A printable pdf file has been added giving directions/locations of all DDAC waters, the details can be given to emergency services when needed. It is advisable to print this and keep the copy on your person. Situations have arisen in the past where this would have saved confusion while relaying exact locations via mobile phone. Allan Miller got more than he bargained for yesterday he said …”This is one of two I got today while out with Bill Rankin, you will notice marks on its neck, while I was playing it a cormorant attacked it needless to say I won but I had to dispatch this fish. My other fish was safely returned. It just shows us the size of fish these cormorants can eat and how much damage they are doing to fish stocks.”
Bill Rankin was up on this bitterly cold day and landed this 5lb+ rainbow, well done !
Simon Mullins fished the reservoir today and took three nice fish, this one a beauty of approx 7lb, just proves there is still good sport to be had up the glen at this time of year.
On Saturday 24 November, Dunoon and District Angling Club held their 69th Annual Dinner and Presentation of Prizes for 2018 in the Argyll Hotel. Pipe major, Duncan McLeod piped in the top table, led by Club President Davy Landsburgh. A very nervous Davy then welcomed members and guests. Two guests from Dunrod Angling Club, Greenock, Willie Thornton, past-president and Ronnie Stevenson were warmly welcomed. Mr William Dick from New Cumnock and Mr Russell Buchanan, past-president of DDAC were the guest speakers. The evening started with Joe Docherty saying Grace followed by a first-class meal. Mr William Dickgave an extremely entertaining and funny talk finishing with a toast to Dunoon and District Angling Club. This was followed by the presentation of prizes.

After the presentation of trophies, Mr Russell Buchanan, past-president of DDAC gave a very interesting talk on how to enjoy your fishing and look after the planet finishing with a toast to “The Gentle Art”.
Bill Duff, Honorary Secretary, was last year’s recipient of the Macaulay Tankard. This tankard is presented each year to an unsuspecting recipient for services to the Club. This year’s winner was Professor Jim Sharp who was given 15 minutes to prepare a reply which was very witty and entertaining including a short song.
The Chairman, Davy Landsburgh, thanked all contributors for a real “guid” night and especially thanked members and guests for their continued support of the dinner. Russell Buchanan proposed a vote of thanks to the President for chairing a fine evening which resulted in a standing ovation.
Last sea trout of the season caught today for member Bill Rankin, he said this one has been in for a while as it has reverted back to its natural state, two other decent trout caught after this and missed a much bigger fish later on. The fish were safely returned.
There were only six members took part with only three members weighing in, the overall winner was Bill Rankin who weighed in two fish for 1lb 3oz, second was Allan Miller with two fish for 1lb 1oz and third was Keith McKenzie with one fish for 8ozs.
