Windy and cold up Loch Tarsan today (14th) if conditions prevail it will prove a difficult first day of the 2017 season tomorrow for the keen anglers who venture out.

A small printing error has been made on the new 2017 membership card, the “valid to” date should read “28 February 2018”

Another nice Winter Rainbow at 3lb+ caught earlier in January, this time by member Bill Rankin … well done Bill ! … Just proof of what’s still in the Reservoir so get the thick socks inside the waders and get up there. Still good sport to be had up the Bishops Glen !

A fine pair of excellent quality Winter Rainbows caught up the Reservoir recently by club member Bob Clark, he caught them with a weighted Cats Whisker on a floating line with a long leader.  Just goes to show the fish are in there for the taking …. Well done Bob !

Fly Tying Starts in January

The fly tying evenings start on January 12th in the Community Center in Edward St, instruction is given by experienced members, if you have never tied a fly before and have no tools or materials its not a problem as there will be spare vices and equipment there to use. Get to know the popular patterns for local waters, and how to fish them. It’s an informative evening so do come along you will be made most welcome !

The dates for 2017 are January 12th and 26th, February 9th and 23rd, March 9th and 16th . Classes start at 7.30pm, hope to see you there.

The 67th Annual Dinner of Dunoon and District Angling Club was held in the Argyll Hotel on Saturday 26 November and was attended by 43 members and guests. An excellent meal was enjoyed by all, with the speakers being Mike Russell MSP and Sir Jamie McGrigor.

This years winner of the Jimmy Docherty Rover Challenge Trophy is Bill Rankin .. well done Bill !

It would be nice to see more members enter this competition next year, the rivers and lochs are waiting to be explored, and are not fished as often as they should be. Make a point of visiting different waters in the new season, as wild fishing is what it’s all about !
