A beautiful day at Menteith but the fish were very picky with the flies. The algae was very bad in some areas like the roadside bays, it was like pulling your line through mud and the ban on killing fish was still in force. Lee Lindop had the best three fish and Davy Landsburgh tied with BIll Rankin for largest. Harry Lindop caught the most (9) but most of us struggled to get any at all. The total catch for the 13 members was 22.
16 members attended, great hospitality was provided by the Carron manager. The weather was very windy with a fair bit of rain so we were fighting the conditions all day to get a decent drift.
14 fish were caught, Lee Lindop took the best basket 3 fish for 6lb 2oz, Harry Lindop took the best fish at 7lb caught from the bank after their engine broke down. Only 3 members caught the limit of 3 fish for the competition.
The day was a repeat of the July outing to Frandy last year.
A good meal was had at the Oak Tree, Balmaha.
There are pike caught on most outings to the Lake of Menteith, this time it was Allan Millers turn, the fish was safely returned to the water.
Lee Lindop with the heaviest fish of the outing to the Lake of Menteith, a perfect condition rainbow trout which weighed 6lb’s.
MENTEITH OUTING SAT 17 TH MAY 2017
14 members had a very productive day at Menteith. All but two caught fish with nothing under 2 lbs
The best catch for the first three fish was Lee Lindop at 10lbs 7ozs and second was Harry Lindop at 9lbs 9oz
Lee, the definitive fish charmer, caught 17 fish in total on the day, catch and return, How does he do it ??
All the fish caught were of excellent quality
As in the past the odd Pike was hooked and duly returned for the winter pike fishing season. Possibly we should arrange a winter Outing for Pike. Anybody interested please contact David Lilley.
The Oaktree Inn provided an attractive choice of dishes on the Menu and we could patronise them again if members were happy to repeat it
The winner of the Outings Trophy for this year was Bill Rankin, who also caught the heaviest fish. Well done Bill 🙂
A very windy day and hard conditions for all.
Sixteen members fished with only seven catching fish.
Lee Lindop won with 7lb 2oz, second was Bill Rankin with 7lb, third was Keith MacKenzie with 6lb 4oz, and fourth was Jake Chambers with 6lb.
Bill Rankin had the heaviest fish at 2lb 8oz.
The Inn at Muckhart was an excellent choice yet again with superb food !
14 members enjoyed a good day at Menteith in glorious weather. In fact members speculated it might be a difficult day to fish due to the bright conditions. However most folk caught fish, Ron Ganley excelled himself and caught a Pike.
The prizes for the day went to John Pickett with three fish for 8Lbs 13 Oz and Bill Rankin with three fish for 8Ibs 1Oz.
The total number of fish caught was 24 for 56Ibs.
The next Outing will be at Loch Frandy in July. We have been over subscribed for this Outing since December last year and have been assured by the fishery of first refusal if any boats become available due to cancellations.
Bank fishing is available at Frandy and one or two members have opted to bank fish if extra boats dont become available.
Ron Ganley did bank fish last year and had excellent results.
The Cameron Cup has again been won by Keith MacKenzie with four fish, not as good as last year however when he had six.
John Pickett Snr and Ronnie Ganley ran him a close second with three fish each.
If it had come down to deciding it on weight Keith would still have won with 9lbs 9ozs, next would have been John with 6lbs 14ozs followed by Ronnie with 6lbs 12ozs. So quite tight !
