Had the pleasure of a lovely days fishing on the reservoir last Thursday
Many thanks for the beautiful setting and a well stocked water…….at very reasonable rates. Should anyone complain of the fees, just point them to the small waters down south…….over £50 for a 2 or 3 fish ticket and no catch and return, largely down to the higher water temperatures. The C+R was most appreciated. Being on holiday was pointless catching and killing fish I was unable to freeze and unlikely to eat

With the recent escape of 50,000 salmon from a fish farm near Campbeltown, there is no reason why these fish wouldn’t turn up in our rivers. Anyone catching one should kill it.
Member Bob Clark caught his personal best Rainbow Trout from Dunoon Reservoir today, weighed around the 7lb mark, and took an Okey Dokey lure … Well done Bob !
Member John Easdale also pulled out a Rainbow Trout of approximately 7lbs as well. He said “After many minutes of deliberation I decided to pack my rod, fire up my motorbike and buy a permit to fish the reservoir. I’m glad that I did because I landed this superbly fit 7lb fish. Unfortunately I had to take it because it swallowed the fly”

Member Bill Rankin found this floating in Loch Eck yesterday, he said “squeezy lemon brigade have been up to their old tricks again” ! By all means fish the loch but please retreive your junk and take it home, tackle discarded like this can be fatal to wildlife.
John Easdale also commented, “at the reservoir my son and I must have picked up and disposed of 30+ metres of discarded leader. All this in the last 4 weeks. Please pick up your rubbish.”
River Ruel convener Bob Clark and Stevie Cooper have been busy these last few days, he reports that access has been improved on the stretch of the River Ruel upstream from the Otter Ferry road bridge. About 250 yards from the bridge two styles and a bridge over the ditch have been built, the first style is over a fence that runs parallel to the river abouy 20 yards from it, this leads to the bridge over a deep ditch with a style incorporated into it, the first style is not obvious from the river bank.
Member Bob Clark caught this freshly run sea-trout from the River Ruel this morning, safely returned, “waters perfect, well worth giving it a go” said Bob.

This was announced on the Daily Record website today, lets hope there is some truth in the article, roll on Tuesday to find out !
The new tab “Local Fly Patterns” is coming along nicely with a few members sending in their secret creations, but we could do with more members sending photos in, it keeps the website ticking over during the lockdown and adds a bit of colour to the pages, hopefully we will see restrictions eased before much longer and we can maybe get a line wet before the Summer ends …. fingers crossed !
