The closure remains in place but will be assessed this week. The over 50’s Competition that was due to take place on Wednesday, will now be rescheduled as soon as water levels make it safe to do so. Keep an eye on the website for updates.

Temporary Closure of Loch Tarsan for fishing. 27.06.23
Due to very low water levels at Loch Tarsan, the exposure of potentially dangerous mud, silt and protruding rocks, the Executive Committeehave taken the decision to close fishing on the Loch for now. The situation will be reviewed going forward and members should consult the website for updates on the situation.
Heat 3 of the Club Championship (Mackenzie Cup) took place on Saturday 24th June at Loch Tarsan . With the recent drought conditions the Loch was very low. The banks were difficult to access with mud and exposed rocks. Only three anglers turned out on a day of mixed conditions and the going was tough.
Two anglers returned fish with the result as follows;
1. Keith Mackenzie – 3 fish for 1lbs 11.7 oz
2. Graeme Henry – 1 fish for 5.5 oz
Well done chaps!
Next up at Tarsan is the Over 50’s on Wednesday the 5th of July from 10 till 4pm. Hopefully water levels will have improved.
After the intense heat of recent weeks, only three members were tempted to participate in the Moth Competition, which took place on 16th June.
Conditions were reasonable at the off, with a cooling breeze and some cloud cover. In spite of this fishing was slow particularly at the start. With the midgies threatening to do their worst every time the breeze eased, there was a distinct lack of surface activity and fish were hard to come by. As the sun went down some fish started moving, but it was not until the last hour that a rise really began allowing a few fish to be picked off. As time ran out we were left to ponder whether the Moth Competition should continue beyond 11pm?
The midgies were becoming intolerable however and the weigh in and post fishing chat was kept to a minimum. All three competitors weighed in fish with the result as follows;
1. Duncan F MacGillivray. 4 fish for 3lbs.
2. Keith Mackenzie. 2 fish for 1.5lbs.
3. Graeme Henry. 1 fish for 1lb.
Well done to all the anglers for taking part.
The 3rd Heat of the MacKenzie Cup takes place this coming Saturday, 24th June from 12 to 6pm. Hope to see you there!
With another season well underway and members and visitors catching fish and enjoying our waters, here is some of the work taking place behind the scenesat DDAC.
Regular stocking has been taking place at all of our still waters. A change of fish supplier was required due to the closure of Belhaven Fishery. Invicta Fishery has now taken over and have provided several loads of high-quality fish in an efficient and professional manner. Various club members regularly volunteer to assist with this crucial task.
A new multi visit, evening ticket has been introduced at the Reservoir for members that should allow anglers to have a go at short notice, when circumstances and conditions are favourable for them.
Work is continuing to improve and promote fishing at the River Ruel and has included a large additional pool becoming part of our our beat on a three-year lease, an audacious, grant funded operation to remove a particularly large and problematic dead tree from said pool, an informative evening tour of our beat by Ruel Convener, Bob Clark and Club members continuing to provide support with netting and monitoring of sea trout in partnership with the Argyll Fisheries Trust.
If you would like to get involved in any of these activities, please contact Club Secretary on 07814910795. Alternatively, you can contact any Committee member or email the Club at
Finally we have received some very positive feedback recently that helps to make all the efforts of Club members worthwhile –
“Looking forward to coming back everybody got fish 4 of us got our limit the other 2 had 3/4 each,condition were hard with the flat calm, thank you for all your help”. Visiting anglers on Loch Tarsan 20.05.23
“Was through at weekend, caught 2 browns at Tarsan on the Friday evening and had 16 rainbows, a blue and a 3lb brown over the Saturday and Sunday at the Reservoir. Thank you for the work you guys do.” Club member 22.05.23
DDAC have now got a three year lease on the Ministers pool on the Ruel. This gives us unbroken access on the West Bank and from the bridge at the Shinty pitch to the bottom end of the pool on the East bank. Two large trees that were in the pool have been removed by “Tree Care Sor” this help services, money for this was provided by the Glendaruel Windfarm Trust and we thank them both.
Peter Wilkinson said “Mayfly launched and managed this brownie and sea trout on the 1st. Both c. 2.5lb and returned.”
Well done Peter, the kelt was retured, to which we would ask all members to return the brown trout and kelts quickly and safely for the future of the brown trout, sea trout/salmon. DDAC committee.
There is now a Catch/Return book in the Loch Loskin boathouse, would members please fill in their record for the visit, even if it is a nil return … thanks !
